Cheltenham & North Tewkesbury School Sport Network is an organisation committed to improving the level of PE and School Sport in Primary, Secondary, and Special Schools within the area. Our objective is to create a sustainable and coherent infrastructure that nurtures the implementation of high quality provision within the network's schools, having a positive impact on the lives of the young people within the network. The Network works within the School Games structure delivering high quality competitive sporting opportunities for pupils, as well as furthering leadership opportunities for young people, and offering expert support and training for primary schools.

We have been fortunate in Cheltenham with being able to sustain a similar structure to that of the former SSP. Acquiring funding from the School Games and Primary School Sport Premium, the SSN's objectives have altered slightly to align with the ones of these streams, but the overall goal of improving opportunities for all pupils to participate within PE and School Sport remains intact.

School Sport Network Manager, Dan Derrick, oversees the strategic elements of the network, using his strong professional network to ensure the high quality and sustainability of the SSN. Dan has managed the SSN since its conception in 2011, before this he worked as an SSCo and assistant PDM within the old SSP.

Primary PE Curriculum Specialist, Jeanette Quinn provides support for primary school teachers with all things PE. Jeanette brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the SSN having previously worked as a Head of PE, a PE and Sport advisor, a Regional Development Officer at the Youth Sport Trust, and as PE Subject Leader for PGCE PE at the University of Worcestershire.

School Sport Network Co-ordinator, Matt Coldrey, links with the Primary and Secondary Schools to organise tournaments within the School Games structure, as well as training young leaders to assist with this. Recently graduated, Matt also works with the University of Gloucestershire lecturing in Sports Education and Coaching, bringing expert volunteers and fresh ideas to the Network.

In Cheltenham the vast majority of secondary Head Teachers have been supportive with putting in post a PE teacher release, with all schools engaging in the network's programmes and the School Games.

Primary schools receive funding for PE and School Sport from the government in the form on the School Sport Premium. This has enabled schools to buy-in to the SSN, funding posts for the new specialist staff allowing the work of the SSN to continue and furthering the SSN's sustainable development of PE and School Sport within Cheltenham and North Tewkesbury.

The School Sport Network hub site is the newly built All Saints' Academy. All Saints' Academy is a £24 million new build school which has replaced Christ College and Cheltenham Kingsmead. The Academy has fantastic facilities and is used for meetings, competitions and festivals and CPD courses organised by the network.

The School Sport Network is always seeking funding so if you are a local business, please click on our Sponsorship page.
